    Update: Website Issues

    Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

We are in the process of updating Mad Mortgage World to create a more interactive and community based website. You might experience some issues with accessing content off and on, if you receive a login prompt, refresh and ignore it. Our email server is having issues. Once a new feature is released we will make a formal announcement on the homepage. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, however please trust us when we say the benefits and features being added completely outweigh the tiny issues you may experience now.

3 Ways to NEVER Forget a Password

    Thursday, July 31st, 2008
    The Key to Password Management
    The Key to Password Management

I am going to start out with the methods I have used up until now and then share with you the single COOLEST method of password management I have ever experienced.

    1. I use Vortex Password Manager. It is easy to use and free. I am able to store the name of the service, the website, my username, my password, and, in the notes below, I can include security questions, comments, etc. This has come to my rescue countless times as I use it to manage 57 separate accounts!
    2. I have many friends who use Google Docs as a password manager. They have created one spreadsheet in their Google docs and have used it to store the same information as Vortex. The plus side to this method is: Google Docs is online and accessible form anywhere. So if you are on a trip, or just away from your computer but, need access to an account simply login from where you are and retrieve your information.
    3. Lastly, and probably the most intuitive and COOLEST approach is a “memory method.” It is a combination of the name of the account you are managing and a special code you have created. Let’s say you have a Google account and your special code is abc123. Then you might take the word Google and insert your code into that account name; for example: Gooabc123gle. Gooabc123gle would then become your new password! This can work for any account and is not likely to be easily forgotten by you! I heard this method from two people last week but, if I told you who they are, they would likely kill me.

What password management tool, system, or trick do you use? Share it here and build the community!

Top Social Media Sites for Loan Officers - Episode #3

    Friday, June 20th, 2008

After a very successful interview I asked Justin Williams to guest post here about Active Rain. So here we are, this is the 3rd installment of our quest for the top Social Media sites for Loan Officers! This is his follow-up post!

If you are new to blogging or new to the whole social networking concept, ActiveRain is a great place to start down your digital path to success as a Real Estate or Mortgage Professional.

Activerain is a Real Estate Social Network Site for Real Estate Professionals. They have a public consumer site called Localism. We are able to post blogs which can be syndicated to the Activerain Community as well as the Localism Community.

Below are 6 tips to start gaining free online exposure and networking relationships once you have signed up and made a profile on the site.

Introduce yourself - Now that you have made your profile, write your 1st blog post.  Don’t worry about what to write just yet, if you can’t think of anything to write about, introduce yourself.  Write a post about who you are; that you are new to the community.

Activerain has such a great community of friendly members. Before you know it you will have a lot of comments on your 1st post.  You have now completed the most important part of getting your name out there.

Join Groups - Start joining as many groups as you can that you relate to your business and also the business of your target referral partners whether they are Realtors, Builders, Stagers, or Title Companies.  The whole idea behind groups is: once you start blogging you can post your blogs to up to 5 groups for each post.

Groups can vary from off topic stuff, newbies, Realtors, Loan Officers etc.  These are your target audience for your posts.

Research -The best way that I learned on how to maximize my blogging experience with Activerain is to read other blogger posts.  Read the most active, and/or the bloggers with the most points. Discover what they are doing to attract readers and how they gained success.

Activerain is a huge center of information for success stories, tips/suggestions, and industry trends.  You will be amazed at how much you can pick up just by reading blog posts from other members! Learn from what works and make it your own.

What to blog about? - This shouldn’t be too hard because mainly you want to write about being a Mortgage Expert in your area.  Write about the latest trends in your market, market reports, new loan programs, guideline changes, etc.  Your main topics should be focused on Mortgage financing but don’t make it bland, put some soul and personality in your posts!

Mortgage related topics have a bad rep for being the most boring topics to read.  Don’t just copy and paste stats! Create a story, analogy, or metaphor; anything to grab the reader’s attention.  Also don’t just limit your topics to Finance, write about what’s going on in your community. Establish yourself as the local Mortgage Expert. Write about your hobbies and interest. Whatever you do, stand out from the rest. People buy things from people they trust and like.

I write mainly about 3 things, Mortgages, Technology, and Personal/Local Events.  Write topic ideas down! You will start getting a lot of great ideas but, maybe not have the time to write the entire blog post. Jot all your ideas and topics down for future use.

Reaching out -  If you want to network, start reading other peoples blogs and comment on them.  Start sharing ideas and success tips The bottom line in doing so is to get your name out to the community; if they see that you are an active and helpful member you have increased your chance of getting a contact from them.  Success can come very quick or may take a while, either way you are planting seeds for the future. Keep getting your name out there in the online world, just like in the real world, success will surely follow.

Keep blogging - Write 1 blog a week, even if it’s just a success story! You will want to keep your online presence active and always growing.  Blogging doesn’t have to take up all your time. Even 1-3 paragraph blogs can make powerful statements that help build your track record. This will assist you in getting more exposure.

In conclusion, these are just starter tips to help you gain success from Activerain. The best way to learn is to actually start doing it and engaging the community.

Social Media is becoming increasingly popular and many success stories have arisen from this avenue. Start taking advantage of the new era and start building your online presence before you are left in the dust with your competition.

    Ready… Aim… Shoot!

    Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

    Hey,

So most people won’t care, but others will love me. We spent a few hours last night going through schedules and availability trying to organize the shoots. We’ve spaced some of it out because of our cast and crew having such a busy summer. We will plan on most of these shots getting done sooner and quicker… but just to be safe we split the episodes up as much as possible to make it easier on the actors involved and also to not tie up everyone’s summer. However, again… we hope to get more shot on some of these days and shorten the entire project. We’ll see how it goes though. Please email me with any questions…

June 15th —— 3:30pm — 6:00pm —— Go through second episode and start rehearsal on the “Meet and Greet” scene in episode 1. (Probably will be the hardest, other scenes we aren’t setting a rehearsal/blocking time out for, other scenes will take place day of shoot)

    June 20th —— Off
    June 21st —— Off

June 29th —— 3:00 — 7:00pm —— First day of shooting; “Meet and Greet”, “Smith’s Entrance” — Everyone will need to be there.

    July 4th —— Off
    July 5th —— Off

    July 12th —— 1:00pm — 5:00pm —— Shoot; “Title Company” — Craig Only
    July 13th —— 3:00pm — 6:00pm —— Shoot; “Closings & Coffee” — Everyone

    July 20th —— 3:00pm — 6:00pm —— Shoot; “Go Get Craig” “Indy Scene” — Office Manager & Processor

    July 26th or 27th —— ??? —– Shoot; “Possible Finale” & “The Big Speech”

    Monday, June 9th, 2008

So we have finally finished auditions, which is surprisingly a daunting, yet highly entertaining task. The cast couldn’t be better if we had went to Hollywood herself. We are working on the shooting schedule right now and hope to have it published and finalized as soon as possible. The teaser trailer is being edited right now, should be ready for your viewing pleasure in the next couple weeks. Our marketing guru is also putting the finishing touches on our Mad Mortgage World Movie Poster. (Pre-order NOW!!) HA! We actually might consider it, if the demand is high enough. In the meantime check out our wonderful cast below!

    Character ———– Actor/Actress
    Morgan Tuesday ———— Rachael Weinstein
    Jamie ———— Erin Rose
    Craig Sanchez ———— JT Wakefield
Riley Kane ———— Molly Lynn — Check this out too! Ha!

Top Social Media Sites for Loan Officers – Episode #2

    Friday, June 6th, 2008

    TwitterTwitter.

You have probably heard the name if you spend any amount of time on the internet at all. I don’t want to describe Twitter so I will let the experts at Webware do that for me:

“Twitter is an online service that enables you to broadcast short messages to your friends or “followers.” It also lets you specify which Twitter users you want to follow so you can read their messages in one place.

Twitter is designed to work on a mobile phone as well as on a computer. All Twitter messages are limited to 140 characters, so each message can be sent as a single SMS alert. You can’t say much in 140 characters. That’s part of Twitter’s charm.”

Ok, so I hope you get it but, for those of you who need a bit more; check this out. It’s a video by Lee LeFever at the CommonCraft Show and will walk you through Twitter as well.

We aren’t here today for a “how to” though are we? No. We are here to discover how to use Twitter as a lead generating app for mortgage related business! The next sentence is the most crucial part of this entire post. Are you ready?

    It doesn’t work that way.

Mortgage generated leads from Twitter will be few and far between. Twitter will be best used by Loan Originators as a way to reach out and connect. Connect with the marketing guru (Chris Brogan) in Massachusetts. Connect with the Globetrotting Entrepreneur (Gwen Bell) down the street. Connect with the genius mortgage broker (Ricardo Bueno) who HAS received business through Twitter. Connect with the Agent right down the street.

Christopher Penn, in the interview found here, describes customers less as consumers and more as connections. The more we connect in authentic transparent relationships with those we meet in the Twittersphere, the more comfortable we become sharing that authenticity with our clients. We begin to bring transparency back into an industry that for the past decade has been shrouded in secrecy.

I know what some of you are thinking; yeah but what about this guy? He broadcasts rates and he’s sure to get “deals” that way. He might but, he’s missing the point entirely. He heard about Twitter ands asked the question “how?” “How can I implement this new technology called Twitter into my mortgage business?” “How can I turn Twitter into a lead churning killer application?” He then grabbed a username and threw himself into the fray. You couldn’t ask to be more commoditized!

The question we have to ask ourselves before jumping on the Twitter-wagon is: “Why?”

“Why am I thinking about using Twitter?”

IF your answer is “because everyone else is doing it;” well then that’s not good enough. If your answer is “I want to discover new connections” you might be on the right track. If that’s the case follow me and we’ll figure this thing out together.

Follow? I have to follow people.

Yes, that’s the terminology Twitter uses for individuals who connect with someone else. Want to know more about how? Cl
