I have listed out some of the blogs I subscribe to that seem to consistently have relevant information. They are categorized by the Google Reader folder I have them in.
Real Estate
Inman News - Inman’s blogging persona. The blog is free but, it looks like you may have to pay for an “upgraded” membership. Maybe we can get someone out there who is/was a member to let us know if it’s worth it…
Housing Panic - Great blog on timely news. I love the editorial style and would love to meet the blogger. Anyone know him/her?
Lenderama - Usually has a couple of solid posts per week around mortgage industry related news.
Mortgage Lender Implode-O-Meter - Ok let me start off by saying they have a great concept. I personally do not like the uber hype with which all posts are released. I normally find 1-2 gems per month. The rest seems to be articles picked up elsewhere online and just regurgitated.
Real Estate Zebra #1 - I like Daniel’s posting methodology. He finds the best of the blogs he reads and reposts them as a sort of human-powered aggregator. To read Daniel’s original postings checkout the next listing…
Real Estate Zebra #2 - this is Mr. Zebra’s personal musings and he normally has some great insight.
REALTOR.COM - Believe it or not I subscribe to the REALTOR.com feed. I have found dozens of articles here that I have saved in my “for reference” file. All of their articles are bite-sized and can be digested in seconds.
Mad Mortgage World - Well of course this would be there wouldn’t it?
TitleRep.info - What list would be complete without Jeff Bernheisel’s Real Estate/Mortgage-Centric blog designed to give the industry tech tips it needs to survive this crazy market.
Blogging/Podcasting
How to Change the World - Guy Kawasaki gives us much needed wisdom on navigating the new age of digital media and creative
ProBlogger - I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve learned from Darren over at ProBlogger. He consistently delivers “how-to” advice for bloggers everywhere.
Copy Blogger - This guy belongs to the Church of Content. If you want to know how to deliver incredible edible content again and again just read. Then rinse and repeat.
Paul Colligan - Wanna develop a podcast that can be monetized. Paul dives deep on the complex world of monetizing your podcast in a no-holds barred type of way.
Podcast Academy - This is the feed that publishes all the session from the Podcast and New Media conference from 2007. I have listened to every episode and can tell you there is gold in “them thar hills.”
Web Strategy/Social Media
Six Pixels of Separation - Mitch Joel’s groundbreaking podcast/blog delivers insight into the web 2.0 culture that is sweeping the Marketing/PR industry. If you want to know how to survive in this environment you need to get involved in his community.
Jeremiah Owyang - A new addition to my RSS reader but, I haven’t been disappointed. Jeremiah has a very no-nonsense voice as he walks us through Social Networking from the corporate perspective. I have been able to put legs to his words here at Mad Mortgage World and appreciate his blog.
Seth’s Blog - I think it goes without saying that Seth Godin would be in my reading list.
Chris Brogan - If you are a member of the Mad Mortgage World community you will know by now that I am a huge fan of Chris Brogan. Chris tends towards a very user friendly explanation of different Social Media strategies. He is also in many ways the conscience of the blogging community by reminding us to keep things personal and remain authentic.
Dosh Dosh - Read one posting and you will still be in the throes of digesting it when the next offering comes out. I cannot understand how one man can have so much information shoved into his head!
Going Social Now - If you want a steady stream of all that Social Media has to offer you must listen in to this blog. You will discover how varying corporations utilize social media and what their results have been.
Christopher Penn - A personal favorite of mine who recently lent his voice to the Mad Mortgage World Community. He brings a very personal and authentic voice to the online multiverse of Social Media.
Louis Gray - Prepare to have your mind blown as you peek under the hood of different social networking applications. Seriously, use protective eye wear.
Marketing
Future of Real Estate Marketing - This is a late comer to my Google Reader but, important nonetheless. I have been impressed with the level of quality posts I have discovered on this site and declare it a “must read” for all real estate professionals.
Marketing Profs - You won’t walk away with an incredible tool to play with everyday but, you will walk away with a greater understanding behind the nuts and bolts of today’s marketing philosophies.
Marketing Over Coffee - One of my favorite podcasts. It takes place inside a Dunkin Donuts and discusses marketing tips and techniques in a very conversational tone between Chris Penn and John Wall.
37 Signals - No list would be complete without 37 Signals teaching us to hear and be heard by each other over the “noise.”
Church of the Customer - Customers are people too! We are constantly challenged to reinvent the way we see our “customers” and join the multitudes of companies that have “seen the light.”
Presentation Zen - Join Garr’s conversation about presenting using your authentic voice. He is working to deliver the entire world from the “slideument.” If you don’t know what I am talking about then read the book and the blog.
PR Squared - A candid, somewhat irreverent, look at the future of Social Media and Marketing. Fun and insightful, what more could you want?!
Miscellaneous
Ted.com - Incredible narratives. That’s it. This is some of the most inspirational stuff online. Period.
RE Agent in CT - Okay, this guy is friggin hilarious. He posts the bad MLS photo of the day. Click here for one of my recent favorites.
Worker’s Edge - CNET.com’s answer to the growing demand by the everyman to understand how to work more efficiently. Great tips/tricks to upgrade your PC productivity.
What am I missing? Is there a blog that should be on here? Is there a blog on here that should come off? Tell me in the comments!
Thank you for including my blog in the list. I’m glad you find it useful.
Best,
Shiv
very cool - thanks for including me… I am honored
Daniel - if you were to pick 2 from each category, which ones would they be? Karen.
tough question - they each bring a very unique voice to their audiences. However, if we are playing the “which ones would you want on a deserted island game” I would have to say that 6 blogs are “read” more completely by me than the rest:
Inman
ProBlogger
CopyBlogger
Seth’s Blog
Chris Brogan
Marketing Over Coffee
I hope this answers your question!
Thanks for including FOREM and Inman News.
Just FYI - there is no charge to read the news on Inman News or our blog though we do offer memberships that give advanced functionality on our web site, access to videos and podcasts and discounts on our events.
@joel thanks for the clarification! there you have it folks - read away!
